What is a Certified Pedorthist?
An ABC Certified Pedorthist (C.Ped.) is a healthcare professional trained to provide comprehensive pedorthic care. This includes assessing patients, creating treatment plans, and following up on care. Pedorthic care focuses on evaluating patients and designing, fitting, modifying, maintaining, and repairing pedorthic devices. These devices help prevent or alleviate pain and disabilities originating from the ankle or below.

In simpler terms, a Pedorthist is someone who can examine your feet, answer your questions, and address your concerns. While we are not doctors and cannot diagnose medical conditions, we can guide you on whether you should see a doctor for a diagnosis.
C-Peds can create and customize inserts and other devices to improve how your foot interacts with the ground, enhancing comfort and support.
How Does a Pedorthist Differ from an Orthotist?
An ABC Certified Orthotist (CO) and/or Prosthetist is also a healthcare professional. They are trained to manage comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic care. This includes patient assessment, treatment planning, implementation, follow-up, and practice management. The documentation they provide becomes part of the patient's medical record, helping establish the medical necessity for orthotic and prosthetic care.

While the definitions may seem similar, the key difference is that an Orthotist's scope is not limited to just the feet. They work with various body parts, providing a broader range of care.
Personalized Care at Benders
At Benders, we pride ourselves on our personalized service. Both Mike (CO) and Nina (C-PED) have extensive training in various foot conditions. When you schedule a free foot evaluation with them, they will take the time to assess your foot, gait, and any pain or issues you may be experiencing in your feet, legs, knees, or back.
During your evaluation, they will recommend specific types of shoes, inserts, or other devices tailored to your needs. Their goal is to help you reduce pain and increase comfort. The only costs associated with the evaluation are for the products you choose to purchase based on their recommendations.
We genuinely want to help you find the right solutions for your foot health. So, if you have any concerns, don't hesitate to reach out.
